Visiting Malaysia – Parliament dissolved, MYR Ringgit implications – After months of pressure from a group of UMNO leaders aligned with their president who wanted elections one year ahead of the due date next year, Parliament was dissolved Monday 10.10.2022, GE15 within 60 days.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s announced the dissolution of Parliament in a special announcement at Perdana Putra at 3 pm Monday, putting an end to the rumours and speculations that had grown stronger since the end of September, and paves the way for the 15th General Election (GE15) in Malaysia.

The current incumbents will automatically be the caretaker government, unless the caretaker hands over his reins to another minister.

If you were thinking of speeding on the North-South Highway without consequences, some bad news – The civil service and all authorities such as the police force and immigration, will continue to function as it is and the chief secretary would continue as the head of civil service.

The battered Malaysia Ringgit is expected to become a political hot potato in this election, coming expectedly after the tabling of federal government budget.

Many political analysts do not expect any single party to get an outright majority in the 222-member Lower House, which will continue to impact the country’s already troubled economic outlook and may not lend any boost to the RM Ringgit.
