China Eastern Airlines MU5735 Boeing 737 Crashes, 132 onboard – the relatively new 6-year old aircraft was cruising and plummeted over 25,000 feet in 2 minutes at 2:15pm 22nd March Monday, slamming into a mountain range in Southern China.
The number of casualties and cause of the crash were not immediately known, although later reports suggested no survivors. The Civil Aviation Administration of China confirmed the crash yesterday, and said an emergency rescue team was sent to the crash site.

China’s last major fatal aviation disaster was in 2010, when at least 42 people were killed after a passenger plane had overshot the runway at Yichun City’s airport.
China was the first country to ground the 737 MAX after fatal crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia more than three years ago, and it is the only major market where the MAX has not resumed commercial flights.
Colin Scarola, analyst at CFRA Research, said the crash might causefurthe r delays the return of the MAX in China, where the aviation regulator is known for being very thorough on safety issues.
“We have been in close communication with our customer and regulatory authorities since the accident, and have offered the full support of our technical experts to the investigation,” in a memo to employees by Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun
