Future Visits to Tuvalu may happen only in Metaverse as sea levels rising could threaten to submerge the nation entirely, as it is estimated that a sea level rise of 20–40 centimetres (7.9–15.7 inches) in the next 100 years could make Tuvalu uninhabitable.

Tuvalu became independent from the United Kingdom in October 1978. It is a constitutional monarchy with a 15-member unicameral parliament elected every four years, and Tuvaluan Dollars and Australian AUD dollars are used.
Tuvalu’s Foreign Minister, Simon Kofe, stated at the COP27 climate summit that it was time to consider alternative solutions for his country’s survival, including becoming the first nation to replicate itself in the metaverse. The Pacific Island nation plans to create a digital clone of itself, recreating islands and monuments and conserving its history and culture as rising sea levels threaten to submerge the country.
“Our land, our ocean, our culture are the most precious assets of our people – and to keep them safe from harm no matter what happens in the physical world, we’ll move them to the cloud. Islets like this one won’t survive rapid temperature increases, rising sea levels, and drought, so we’ll recreate them virtually. Piece by piece we’ll preserve our country, provide solace to our people, and remind our children and our grandchildren what our home once was.” said Simon Kofe
