LGBT Travellers – Singapore repeals law on gay sex – Singapore will repeal a law that bans gay sex, effectively making it legal to be homosexual in the city-state.

The decision was announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during National Day Rally 2022 broadcast live on national TV, comes after years of debate. Religious leaders and groups said that they were assured by the Government’s plans to protect the definition of marriage in the Constitution in response to PM Lee’s announcement.
“Traditional family values have to be preserved, but we cannot force our values onto others or instill our own ideas, especially in the young. Let them have their own choices when they come to a mature age.” said Venerable Seck Kwang Phing, the president of the Singapore Buddhist Federation.
Prime Minister added that the Government has no intention of changing the definition of marriage or national policies on public housing, education, adoption rules, advertising standards and film classification, and will maintain “prevailing norms and values” of Singapore society.
As of time of reporting, Taiwan is the only country in Asia to legally recognize same sex marriage.
