Malaysia chickens out, bans exports to Singapore – as early as 1st June, 34% of chickens supplies into Singapore will be halted by its northern neighbour, as Malaysia struggles with supplying Malaysians amidst escalating chicken prices.

On 23rd May yesterday, Putrajaya announced several short-term solutions to deal with the rising prices, as well as the shortage of chicken in Malaysia.

SFA (Singapore Food Agency) said that Singapore also gets chicken from Brazil (49%) and the US (12%). Chicken importers here will have to increase imports of chilled chicken from these and alternative sources and from existing non-Malaysian suppliers.

Consumers should also consider other meat products, and buy only what they need.
