Malaysia new PM Anwar declines Mercedes S600 car – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he turned down the use of a Mercedes-Benz S600 limousine that the Prime Minister’s Department purchased prior to his appointment.
Malaysian Ringgit strengthened and rallied by the most in 2.5 years since Anwar became Prime Minister.
“I would like to inform you that yesterday I refused to use a Mercedes S600 type vehicle that was purchased and obtained by the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) before I entered the office. I did not want any new public expenditure to be spent on me, Instead, I will use whatever vehicles are available for daily official use,” he said in a Facebook posting tonight.

Anwar added no new official car would be bought for his use and no renovations carried out at his office, as part of a new culture against wastage of public funds that must be practised by all.
75 year old Anwar was sworn in as the 10th Prime Minister before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at the Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, had announced that he would reduce unnecessary expenses in his administration.
