Shark Attack in Cornwall, but travellers to UK need not fret, as attacks are extremely rare in the United Kingdom. A snorkeler has suffered a leg injury after reportedly being bitten by a blue shark off the coast of Cornwall.
The incident occurred on 28th July Thursday, and many media reports failed to mention that the female victim in question was many miles offshore on an organized trip that uses frozen chum in the water to bring in the blue sharks for close encounters.
The snorkeller received first aid and was given further treatment ashore from ambulance crews following the incident. The company – Blue Shark Snorkel Trips – that organised the tour, said such incidents were “extremely rare” and they were “in continued talks with shark experts” to determine what had happened.
The snorkeler said that although the bite was a “very scary” incident, she does not want it to “tarnish the reputation of an already persecuted species”. The extent of her injuries are unknown but not thought to be serious.
