Travel bubble: Air tickets between Singapore and Hong Kong soared The cost of air tickets between Singapore and Hong Kong soared on Friday (Oct 16) just a day after plans for a travel bubble between the two countries was announced. The cheapest price on the Singapore Airlines website for a return economy ticket was $558 on Friday evening for flights up to the end of December, up from around $400 on Thursday as reported in The Straits Times on 16 October, 2020.
According to South China Morning Post (16 October, 2020), Hong Kong and Singapore on Thursday unveiled the landmark agreement to launch a bubble for general travel within “weeks” amid the havoc wreaked on the local economy – in particular the tourism industry – by the Covid-19 pandemic. The preliminary plan involves travellers showing negative test results for the coronavirus, with no restrictions on the purpose of travel and no controlled itineraries. But passengers will not be allowed to transit.
