China financial hub Shanghai to lock down for Covid – the city of 26 million will be locked down, and all residents tested over 2 phases, over a nine-day period. This was after it reported a new daily record for asymptomatic infections.
Shanghai had tried to rein in the Covid outbreak, comprising mainly of asymptomatic cases, and tried to do so without what is often weeks long citywide lockdowns usually done across the rest of China.
Shanghai city is a new global Covid hotspot, with Covid infections rising 66 per cent – Data reported showed that the city had 2,676 new Covid cases on Saturday, recording a 66 per cent rise in 48 hours.
Over 14 million Shanghai residents have taken antigen tests, the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission said Sunday.
No deaths were reported on 26th March, leaving the death toll at 4,638. As of 26th March, mainland China had confirmed 143,240 cases of COVID-19.
