Indonesia football stampede kills at least 125 in one of the world’s deadliest sporting stadium disasters, the tragedy occurred Saturday night in the city of Malang, which also left 323 injured according to police.

Arema FC supporters at the Kanjuruhan stadium invaded the pitch after a 3-2 loss to their bitter visiting rivals, Persebaya Surabaya. Police said the riots killed 2 officers and they tried to force fans to return to the stands by firing teargas. Many of the victims were trampled or choked to death in the stampede.
“It had gotten anarchic. They started attacking officers, they damaged cars,” said Nico Afinta, police chief in East Java, adding that two police officers were among the dead.
