Money Changer User got Shortchanged by $3.88 – At Cashchanger, we work closely with our Money Changer partners and community, to provide users with the best source of information for free, while not charging our money changers for the thousands of clicks per week they receive.
Sometimes, there could be some misunderstanding, or occasionally a “creative” use of an “attractive rate”, by our Money exchange partners, and this can confuse users who turn up at the shop expecting the rate, failing which it leads to frustration, disappointment for all parties, especially the users.
On Tuesday 15th October, Mr WS Tan went to a Money Changer in the East, and sent us the receipt.
Said Mr Tan: “I travel every quarter and most frequent will be Malaysia which your website provides best information so I am able to make informed decision on where I am able to change my currency.”
As you can see above, the receipt showed a rate that differed slightly from the rate (of 22.48) updated on our site by the money Changer about 20 minutes before he had made the transaction. Despite showing the rate and insistence, the Money Changer offered a different rate. Needless to say, he was pretty upset.
We made our investigation and contacted the Money Changer partner, and determined that in Mr Tan’s very specific and unique case, it was an abuse of the system resulting in his loss of about S$3.88.
As our gesture of goodwill, we had followed up with Mr Tan to make arrangements for his case. As for the errant Money Changer partner, we have temporarily suspended them from our site.
In some cases, Money Changer Partners could make a genuine mistake keying rates into the system, and it really depends on the situation. We hope to get everyone’s understanding that while we’ve built a great system, people do make mistakes sometimes, us included.
