Philippines election – Marcos Jr vs Leni Robredo – Ferdinand Marcos Jr, 64, is tipped by pundits putting his odds of winning at 75 per cent, over his nearest rival, Vice-President Leni Robredo, 57, by more than 30 percentage points in opinion polls in Philippines’ 17th presidential elections.

Millions began voting today Monday, under the watchful eyes of thousands of security forces. This was after violence claimed four lives over the weekend.

Marcos Jr. has been helped by a barrage of online propaganda painting the tough martial law years under the older Marcos as a golden era and alliances with powerful political clans.

“We have lawyers on standby. We have to report and document everything we’re seeing outside of the norm, the last thing we want is to see the integrity of our election crumble because this is what creates disorder.” said Ms Robredo when asked about the hours-long wait, faulty voting machines and questionable ballots.
