Australia – Coles and Woolworths rocked in Recycling Scandal – travellers who’ve visited Australia would be familiar with the Woolies and Coles supermarkets, and likely got some fresh produce and perhaps value for money steaks for the kitchen in your apartments in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney etc.
Aussies who have been taking the time to drop their soft plastics off at Coles and Woolworths recycling points have been left bitterly disappointed after it was revealed the rubbish was not being recycled at all.

REDCycle admitted yesterday that it is not recycling plastic collected from the 2 partners, and is storing it in a warehouse, and fears have been raised it could start a potentially lethal, cancer-causing toxic fire.
“However, due to several unforeseen challenges exacerbated by the pandemic, REDcycle’s recycling partners have temporarily stopped accepting and processing soft plastics, This combination has put untenable pressure on the REDcycle business model. Holding soft plastics in stock is not a perfect solution, but REDcycle took the decision to hold material in the short term, at great personal expense to the organisation, because they are fundamentally and profoundly committed to keeping the material out of landfill,” said redcycle
REDcycle founder Liz Kasell also added that the company will hold the material it has collected in storage until the scheme can resume.
