South Korea sees record Covid surge in Omicron cases when it clocked its highest daily coronavirus deaths of 429, with more than 620,000 cases in 24 hours.
According to World Health Organization (WHO) data, South Korea leads the world in newly reported cases in the last seven days with 2,417,174 infections, closely followed by Vietnam with 1,776,045.
The 621,328 case tally recorded yesterday Thursday 17th March was South Korea’s highest daily figure since the pandemic began.
South Korea has switched to managing the most serious cases and introducing at home treatment for patients with light symptoms, saving the intensive care units (ICUs) for those seriously ill.
The rise in hospitalizations and deaths has strained health and administrative resources in the country.
