Travellers to Singapore – Asia’s largest bird park shuttering on 3rd January 2023. Jurong Bird Park is taking its final flight and receiving its last visitors, exactly 52 years since it officially opened in 1971.
The staff and residents will be making a move to their new home in Bird Paradise at Mandai Wildlife Reserve. The world famous park and Asia’s largest is home to some 3,500 birds including parrots, flamingos, penguins and eagles, will join the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari, as well as a new luxury Banyan Tree resort, to form an eco-tourism hub in northern Singapore.
From 3rd September Jurong Bird Park will run a series of activities, tours and trails that recall the park’s history. Also, a free self guided heritage trail will feature a series of displays on milestones in the park’s history.
According to the Mandai Wildlife Group, the new Bird Paradise will house one of the largest numbers of threatened avian species under human care.
The park now runs on a fleet of electric trams, but visitors used to traverse the attraction on the park’s Panorail (a type of monorail system) when it was operational from 1992 to 2012.
